Readers, tell me, what does it benefit a man/woman to hate on the Biebs?
In case you're confused, by the "Biebs" I mean Justin Bieber.
Personally, I love many of his songs. My current favorite is Never Say Never.
I discovered the Biebs in the summer of 2009 when I first saw his video for "One Time". This was before Bieber fever hit seizure inducing levels in 2010. I remember watching the video that summer and thinking to myself, Who is this kid?! (in a good way). In fact, if you can find my tweets from 2009, I probably have a few about Justin Bieber where I asked who he was. When I saw him at the 2009 VMAs later that year I thought to myself, I really hope any son I have can be that "cool" at age 15. I also wondered just how far he would go. I guess we now know the answer to that.
Aside from liking some of his songs, I think the kid is adorable--and not in a Mary Kay Letourneau kind of way! I think he is adorable the way older sisters occasionally think their younger brothers are adorable and amusing.
Though I don't have a severe case of Bieber fever, I have given his music a chance and found that I like quite a bit of it.
Also, I do not care if somebody out there is judging me! You will be just fine. As I demonstrated a few weeks ago, I also appreciate music from a band like 30 Seconds To Mars. In fact I have Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Britney Spears, and 30 Seconds To Mars on the same mp3 player in the same playlist! Gasp! I have diverse musical taste. Excuse you.
I simply do not understand the hateration that surrounds this boy. He is a 16year old who has, so far, worked damn hard to build a career doing what he loves. WHY do so many people seem to take pleasure in criticizing and making fun of him? I wish that at 16 I had the focus and work etiquette it must take for him to be this successful in an industry that can be brutal.
Yes his music is "sugary pop"--sometimes to the point of inducing diabetes--but a little sugar never hurt anyone. You don't even have to like his music. I just find it odd that grown men and women expend energy to try and put down a 16 year old! Just last week people made snide comments about the fact that the character Justin Bieber played on CSI was shot and killed in the latest episode--basically insinuating that his death should happen in real life. Really guys? People believe the world would be "better off " with the death of a 16 year old that is the only child of a single mother?
Come on people, you can't be that closed minded, jobless, or mean.
He's just a kid. Cut him some slack. Yes, most of the teenage female population is in love with him but is that enough reason to dismiss him? I don't know about you, but I am not yet a grumpy old woman complaining about what the "kids" listen to and asking people to get off my lawn! I like pop music.
In fact, whenever I have time, and it becomes available outside of theaters, I will watch Never Say Never (the movie) because I think the Biebs has an interesting story. For one, his story is a great example of the power of Youtube and a generation of musicians that migrate from the web to our televisions. In fact--instead of making fun of him--maybe all you future musicians should watch the movie and take some notes on possible ways to build a brand using Youtube. Perhaps you too can make it to MTV (and I mean MTV not MTV Base).
Now I present my new favorite Justin Bieber song, Never Say Never, featuring Jaden Smith (who is also adorable).
