Violating Treaties

Remember this post about the treaty Alpa Chino and I signed? Well, call the UN folks. It appears we have an international diplomacy catastrophe on our hands because a couple of weeks ago, I violated the terms of the treaty. The US is going to have to host peace talks at Camp David before we can rectify this situation

Can you tell I am not treating this with the "seriousness" it deserves?

Technically the situation has been "rectified", sort of.

The other day, I was talking to Alpa Chino via video chat on my laptop (very G-rated conversation don't worry) and Mogaji called me on my cell.

I told Alpa Chino I would have a quick chat with her and would be right back (see? I give all my friends equal billing, boyfriend or not).

He was still able to hear me on my call with Mogaji when she asked me about him and I used one of our previously banned words.

Oops.

Quarter Life Crisis.

Dear readers, I think I'm having a quarter life crisis.

My life just feels so...bleh.

I'm beginning to exhibit the "restlessness" that made me take a temporary break from Alpa Chino a couple of years ago. Except this time, my restlessness is not focused on any one aspect of my life.

I just feel like I need to change things in a major way.

I found this list of quarter-life crisis "symptoms" on Wikipedia and used it to perform a "quarter life crisis self-assessment".

Starting A Non-Profit & My JAMB Story

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine approached me to introduce a non-profit he is starting up. It sounded like a great idea and so I said, why not?

There are two main goals of this non-profit:
Provide academic support to students pursuing an advanced education in science and/or technology.
Advise on regulatory and policy issues governing science education and research in developing countries.
Everything is still in the administrative setup stage, thanks to incorporation and IRS registration procedures, but by summer all of the administrative stuff will be done.

At the moment, most of the work is towards the first goal. Especially because the founder of this non-profit plans to go to grad school to build up the credentials to work on the second goal. So, the focus is on providing academic support to students interested in advanced study in science and/or technology. To do this, the non-profit will help fund high school (secondary) students that plan to study science and/or technology related majors in university.

Since this will be the first year of the non-profit, the goal is "small" goal. To help pay the costs of the university admission process for students who will be studying science and/or technology based courses. This means, "scholarships" for the JAMB-UTME and post JAMB-UTME exams in Nigeria. Eventually the non-profit will help students elsewhere, but my friend figured why not start in the place he is most familiar with?

Don't Be Ridiculous

In the wake of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Nigerians have once again amazed me with their sensitivity, tact, and intelligence.

Some people, and I will refrain from naming names lest I endanger their chances of obtaining a student visa in the near future, actually tried to tell me over the weekend that God is angry with Japan and that is why the earthquake and tsunami happened.

I don't understand. I really don't.

Let us all think about this carefully. In the list of countries deserving of "natural disaster punishment", I am sure there are many many many countries that should have been hit by weather related disasters before Japan.

I Get Around...

It would seem that I have become a sort of social media junkie, and I barely noticed it happen.

Bringing you updated updates on "stuff"
My latest foray into the social media sphere is on Tumblr. I decided to give it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised that the threshold for popularity on Tumblr is either really low or I am really cool like that.

I say this because, in 24 hours of having a Tumblr account, I have gotten more hits on my Tumblr page than I did in the first few weeks of having this blog.
